Lineage Harlequin Strain
Harlequin is a mostly sativa hybrid, 25% Indica / 75% Sativa, from crossing Colombian Gold x Thai x Swiss Sativa. It carries herbal, piney notes over a clear, gentle body feel.
With a Medium CBD of 6% to 8.5% and a Low THC of 3% to 6%, it is a great choice for anyone after a happy, relaxed and talkative experience with little psychoactive intensity.
Origin
Harlequin originated in the Bay Area of California and became a staple of the medicinal cannabis community thanks to its high CBD content. It comes from a careful cross of Colombian Gold, Thai and Swiss Sativa, a unique genetic profile that offers therapeutic appeal alongside only mild psychoactive effects.
Its balanced CBD-to-THC ratio makes it ideal for anyone seeking relief from pain, anxiety and inflammation without intense euphoria.
Harlequin has gained widespread popularity, with many strains tracing their lineage back to it. Blimburn Seeds offers several notable descendants, including CBD Harlequin, Harlequin x Bubba Kush Regular and Harlequin Kimbo Kush, extending the strainās legacy across recreational and medicinal markets.
Harlequin Seeds Sativa or Indica?
Harlequin leans firmly to the sativa side, 25% Indica / 75% Sativa, for a clear-headed, alert experience. That matters for anyone seeking therapeutic benefits without the heavy sedation often tied to indicas.
It stands out for its Medium CBD of 6% to 8.5%, a preferred choice for daytime use, with genetics bred for a harmonious balance of cannabinoids.
Harlequinās appeal goes beyond its sativa dominance: careful genetic selection gives it consistent therapeutic effects, which has driven strong demand among cultivators. Its landrace heritage also shapes a complex profile of flavors and aromas, along with robust resilience across growing conditions.
Harlequin Strain Effects
Harlequin delivers a balanced spectrum of effects, true to its sativa-dominant lineage. Many report a gentle lift in mood alongside mental clarity and focus, an ideal choice for those seeking relief without overwhelming psychoactivity, and leaving them happy, relaxed and talkative.
Its Medium CBD of 6% to 8.5% plays a pivotal role in moderating the psychoactive impact of THC, for a smooth, manageable experience. That makes Harlequin particularly appealing to anyone turning to it for support with fatigue, muscle spasms and stress, and an overall sense of well-being through the day.
Unlike traditional high-THC strains, Harlequin offers a nuanced approach to symptom relief, letting users stay productive and engaged, a harmonious blend of light stimulation and calm. Effects vary from person to person.
Germinating Harlequin Seeds
It is important to germinate your Harlequin weed strain carefully if you want to have a healthy harvest from day one. Although there are several methods to germinate our Feminized cannabis seeds, from Blimburn Seeds we recommend our customers to follow our easy and simple technique.
Before removing our Harlequin seeds from their packaging, remember that cannabis seeds are alive and delicate. The PH of our hands full of bacteria can easily infect them and ruin our germination.
Set Up Your Germination Station: Begin by moistening two paper towels with room temperature water. Lay one paper towel on a plate and spread the seeds on it, spacing them about 2 cm apart. Place the second paper towel on top of the seeds, and make sure to remove any excess water from the plate. Cover the setup with another opaque plate and store it in a warm, dark location.
Monitoring: Make sure paper towels are still moist by checking every 4-6 hours and spraying room temperature water. Typically, germination should occur within 24 to 120 hours. Once the seeds have sprouted tap roots, plant them with the roots facing down and cover with about 2 cm of soil. Remember to water the soil regularly by spraying to keep it moist. It may take up to two weeks for the plants to start growing.
Ideal Conditions: Maintain a consistent temperature of 70-90ĀŗF in the germination area. Use purified room temperature bottled water with a pH level between 5.5 and 7. Keep the seeds away from light, allowing exposure for less than 1 minute before and during germination. Avoid touching the seeds or applying pressure to them.
Record Keeping: To qualify for the three month germination guarantee, it is necessary to follow all the steps outlined in our germination guidelines. Please do not use alternative germination methods, such as using a water bottle or planting directly into soil. Document the germination process through photography or video, as it will be requested when assessing claims for replacement products.
Harlequin Seeds Flowering Time
Harlequin typically requires around 8 to 10 weeks to fully mature indoors, a timeframe in line with its sativa heritage. That period is essential for developing its cannabinoid profile, celebrated for high CBD and balanced THC, and knowing it precisely can significantly affect the yield and potency of the final product.
For those investing in Harlequin feminized seeds, the predictability of its flowering phase allows for efficient crop management and scheduling, a real advantage for medicinal growers who prize consistency and quality. Its genetics also shape the plantās resilience and adaptability, so accommodating that flowering window is key to unlocking its full potential.
How to grow Harlequin Seeds?
Harlequin seeds can be grown indoors or outdoors under optimal conditions. The plants are moderately easy to grow and hardy, though it is always worth guarding against pests. A few methods help retain and enhance the terpenes and flavors of your buds:
- Use a quality substrate. Perlite, peat or coco coir are ideal for moisture retention.
- In our customersā experience with Harlequin, good technique can increase yields by up to 20%.
For indoor cultivation, we advise wide, vertical spaces and the ScrOG method to obtain a uniform canopy and build up the lower flowers. Feed quality nutrients through the seedling, vegetative and flowering stages. Outdoors, choose a spot with the most direct sunlight; indoors, set up good tents, fabric pots, LED lighting, an air extractor and a carbon filter.
Keep daytime temperatures between 68 and 80 ā, and night temperatures 7 to 9 ā cooler than the day. These plants prefer low humidity: 55 to 60% in the vegetative phase, around 40% in flowering, and down to 30% by harvest.
Outdoors in the northern hemisphere, sow in April for a harvest in mid-October, at about 24.69 oz per plant (700 g). Indoors, the cycle runs 8 to 10 weeks with yields of 1.8 to 1.97 oz/ft² (550 to 600 g/m²).
Ideal Climate for Growing
Harlequin thrives under a combination of strong sunlight and moderate to cool temperatures. The sweet spot is around 70 to 80 ā (21 to 27 ā), which lets the plant fully express its genetics. It can be prone to mildew in wet, muggy conditions, so well-draining soil and a drier environment help lower the risk of disease.
In the United States, the most favorable conditions are found in Northern California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado, where summers are mild and humidity is low. Harlequin also loves long sun exposure, so growers in South Carolina, North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico will succeed too, thanks to their plentiful sunshine. In these conditions the strainās genetics flourish for a successful harvest.
What does the Strain smell like?
The buds of Harlequin are rock-hard, soaked in resin and often carry a crystalline sheen from the sheer amount of trichomes. On the palate it blends fresh pine and herbal notes with a sweet, musky mango aroma, touches of wildflowers and an earthy base.
Harlequin makes for a smooth, soft smoke and a happy, relaxed, talkative experience. Thanks to its heavy resin production, it is also an ideal strain for high-quality extracts and concentrates that capture its piney, herbal, mango-sweet profile.
Experiencing the Strain
With a Low THC of 3% to 6% and a Medium CBD of 6% to 8.5%, Harlequin brings a happy, relaxed and gently uplifting state of mind with a clear, comfortable body feel. It leaves you cheerful and at ease, well suited to daytime use with very little psychoactive intensity.
It is a mostly sativa plant with a sturdy main stem that supports its satellite branches. It grows well indoors or outdoors, with a higher yield when it gets full outdoor sunshine.
Harlequin seeds are a mostly sativa strain that takes about 8 to 10 weeks from germination to harvest. Feeding the right nutrients at each stage helps develop resinous, cannabinoid-rich buds.

Harlequin Strain terpenes
Harlequin carries a focused five-terpene profile that shapes both its piney, herbal aroma and its clear, uplifting, CBD-forward effect, with four terpenes leading the way.
Alpha-Pinene heads the profile, a crisp, fresh pine note that defines the strainās pine flavor and brightens the whole aroma. It is widely associated with a sense of alertness and mental clarity, and here it fits the clear-headed, daytime character and the strainās use against fatigue and brain fog.
Caryophyllene adds a warm, peppery spice that grounds the herbal side of the flavor. It is the one terpene that interacts with the bodyās CB2 receptors and is widely tied to calming, anti-inflammatory properties, central here to the relief many seek for muscle spasms and everyday stress.
Terpineol brings a soft, herbal-floral note with a light pine edge, widely linked to a relaxing, muscle-easing quality. It leans into the strainās herbal flavor and supports its use for muscle spasms and physical tension.
Linalool rounds things off with a soft, floral sweetness, widely linked to a calming, stress-easing quality that quiets an overactive mind. It works alongside the Caryophyllene to steady the mood and sits behind the strainās reputation for easing stress.
Rounding out the profile, Trans-Nerolidol adds a soft, woody-floral calm that completes the aroma and reinforces the gentle, relaxed feel of the smoke.

How To Grow Harlequin
Read NowExpect a classic, vigorous Sativa-dominant structure. This is a medium-to-tall plant that will stretch significantly once flowering begins; it is not a compact plant. It grows with a beautiful, open Christmas-tree structure with long, elegant branches. This framework is excellent for promoting airflow and resisting mold, making it a very resilient plant in the garden.
Harlequin became a legend because it was one of the first strains to reliably produce a high-CBD, low-THC profile with a clear-headed, Sativa-dominant effect. Before Harlequin, most high-CBD strains were heavy Indicas. It proved that you could have the therapeutic benefits of CBD without sacrificing the energetic, creative, and uplifting qualities of a great Sativa, changing the landscape of medicinal cannabis.
While the high-CBD ratio is genetically determined, you can ensure the plant reaches its full medicinal potential by providing a stable, stress-free environment. The key is to allow the plant to fully mature. Do not harvest too early. Wait until the trichomes are all milky-white, as this is when cannabinoid production is at its peak. A slow, careful drying and curing process of at least four weeks will also preserve the delicate terpenes and cannabinoids.
It can be moderately challenging for a first-time grower, primarily due to its size. Its Sativa-dominant structure requires proactive management to control its height, especially indoors. However, its landrace genetics also make it very resilient to mold and pests. We recommend it for ambitious beginners or intermediate growers who are comfortable with training techniques like topping and LST and can provide the vertical space for it to thrive.
