Lineage Afghan Kush Strain

Afghan Kush is a nearly pure indica (90% Indica / 10% Sativa) from the rugged Hindu Kush mountains, long valued for its deeply calming, sedative effects. With a consistent THC of 16% to 21%, it is a favorite among users looking to ease stress, promote sleep or simply unwind.

Built on classic Afghan and Kush landrace genetics, it carries herbal, pine and woody flavors over a strong, indica body high, a great choice for anyone after a relaxing experience.

Origin

Afghan Kush is a classic indica variety from the renowned Hindu Kush mountain range, which stretches along the Afghan-Pakistan border. It was first brought to market by Dutch seed banks in Amsterdam, where it quickly gained popularity among growers and enthusiasts.

Renowned for its stable genetics and short flowering time, Afghan Kush has been a cornerstone of many breeding programs. Its consistent performance and reliable traits make it a preferred parent for new strains like Afghan x Haze and Afghan Kush x Super Skunk.

Afghan Kush Sativa or Indica?

Many growers wonder whether Afghan Kush is indica or sativa. It is predominantly indica, 90% Indica / 10% Sativa, renowned for its relaxing properties. While it keeps a touch of sativa influence, Afghan Kush seeds primarily embody indica traits, which makes them an ideal choice for a soothing, calming experience.

That indica dominance delivers a tranquilizing body high and relief from stress and tension, with just a subtle hint of sativa’s uplifting side to round out the experience.

Afghan Kush Strain Effects

Afghan Kush is celebrated for its potent, therapeutic impact. Users can expect a profound, blissful body high: deeply relaxed and sedative, with just a light, clear-headed lift at the onset before the calm settles in. That makes it an excellent choice for the evening or any moment when deep relaxation is the goal.

Its therapeutic potential extends to fatigue, muscle spasms and stress, for a comprehensive, satisfying experience for anyone in search of tranquility. Effects vary from person to person.

Germinating Afghan Kush Seeds

It is important to germinate your Afghan Kush carefully if you want to have a healthy harvest from day one. Although there are several methods to germinate our Feminized cannabis seeds, at Blimburn Seeds, we recommend our customers to follow our easy and simple technique.

Before removing our Afghan KushĀ seeds from their packaging, remember that cannabis seeds are alive and delicate. Bacteria can easily infect seeds and ruin the germination process, so be sure to wear gloves.

Set Up Your Germination Station: Begin by moistening two paper towels with room temperature water. Lay one paper towel on a plate and spread the seeds on it, spacing them about 2 cm apart. Place the second paper towel on top of the seeds, and make sure to remove any excess water from the plate. Cover the setup with another opaque plate and store it in a warm, dark location.

Monitoring: Make sure paper towels are still moist by checking every 4-6 hours and spraying room temperature water. Typically, germination should occur within 24 to 120 hours. Once the seeds have sprouted tap roots, plant them with the roots facing down and cover with about 2 cm of soil. Remember to water the soil regularly by spraying to keep it moist. It may take up to two weeks for the plants to start growing.

Ideal Conditions: Maintain a consistent temperature of 69.8 ĀŗF – 78.8 ĀŗF (21 ĀŗC – 26 ĀŗC) in the germination area. Use purified room temperature bottled water with a pH level between 5.5 and 6.5. Keep the seeds away from light, allowing exposure for less than 1 minute before and during germination. Avoid touching the seeds or applying pressure to them.

Record Keeping: To qualify for the three month germination guarantee, it is necessary to follow all the steps outlined in our germination guidelines. Please do not use alternative germination methods, such as using a water bottle or planting directly into soil. Document the germination process through photography or video, as it will be requested when assessing claims for replacement products.

Afghan Kush Seeds Flowering Time

Afghan Kush has a short flowering period of about 6 to 8 weeks, one of its most convenient traits. That efficient window, paired with the strain’s robust genetics, makes for a satisfying grow.

Afghan Kush plants develop into robust specimens with resinous buds and a distinctive aroma. Whether you are an experienced grower or a beginner, its quick flowering adds real convenience, an attractive option for anyone after quality and efficiency.

How to Grow Afghan Kush Seeds?

Afghan Kush seeds can be grown indoors or outdoors under optimal conditions. The plants are compact, robust and moderately easy to grow, though it is always worth guarding against pests. A few methods help retain and enhance the terpenes and flavors of your feminized Afghan Kush buds:

  • Use a quality substrate. Perlite, peat or coco coir are ideal for moisture retention.
  • In our customers’ experience, good technique can increase yields by up to 20%.

Indoors, use wide, vertical space and the ScrOG method for a uniform canopy and larger lower flowers. If you prefer to grow outdoors, our grow guide covers optimal cultivation anywhere in the world. Feed proper nutrients through the seedling, vegetative and flowering stages, and indoors set up good tents, fabric pots, LED lighting, an air extractor and a carbon filter.

Keep daytime temperatures between 68 and 80 ℉, and night temperatures 7 to 9 ℉ cooler than the day. These feminized plants prefer low humidity: 55 to 60% in the vegetative phase, around 40% in flowering, and down to 30% by harvest.

Outdoors in the northern hemisphere, sow in April for a harvest in September, at about 15.87 to 22.93 oz per plant (450 to 650 g). Indoors, the flowering time runs 6 to 8 weeks with yields of 1.47 to 1.64 oz/ft² (450 to 500 g/m²).

Ideal Climate for Growing

Afghan Kush flourishes best in a warm, tropical-leaning climate. It favors dry, warm conditions with long, sunny summer days and cool nights, and thanks to its natural robustness it also tolerates colder temperatures better than many strains. The ideal temperature range is 70 to 80 ℉ (20 to 27 ā„ƒ). Consistency is key: avoid abrupt temperature changes and keep humidity moderate for superior growth.

In the United States, the most suitable states for its naturally occurring climate are Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas. Its resilient nature also makes for successful indoor cultivation in states such as Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Florida and Michigan, where a controlled environment lets its genetics shine. Grown in the right conditions, Afghan Kush delivers a booming harvest of dense, resin-rich buds with a delightfully earthy, pungent aroma.

What does the Afghan Kush Strain Smell Like?

The buds of Afghan Kush are rock-hard, soaked in resin and often carry a crystalline sheen from the sheer amount of trichomes. On the palate it blends herbal, pine and woody notes, with a spicy hashish aroma over an earthy, sweet background.

Afghan Kush makes for a smooth, soft smoke behind its strong, relaxing effect. Thanks to its heavy resin production, it is also an ideal strain for high-quality extracts and concentrates that capture its earthy, hashy profile.

Experiencing the Strain

With a Medium THC of 16% to 21%, Afghan Kush brings a deeply relaxed, settled state that eases both body and mind, with a gentle lift in mood along the way. Many also turn to it for support with stress and muscle tension.

Afghan Kush is perfect for the evening after a long day. A mostly indica plant with a sturdy main stem that supports its satellite branches, it grows well indoors or outdoors, with a higher yield when it gets full outdoor sunshine.

As a feminized strain, Afghan Kush has a flowering period of 6 to 8 weeks, and feeding the right nutrients at each stage helps develop resinous buds and trichomes.

Afghan Kush Strain Terpenes

Afghan Kush carries a herbal, pine-and-woody aroma and a deeply relaxing effect, built on a profile of seven terpenes, led by four.

Myrcene forms the earthy, herbal backbone of the strain and is the terpene most tied to body relaxation and sleep. It drives the heavy, settling calm behind Afghan Kush’s sedative character and its use for muscle tension.

Caryophyllene adds a spicy, woody depth and is the terpene best known for easing inflammation and discomfort at the receptor level, anchoring the strain’s relief for muscle spasms and stress.

Alpha-Pinene brings the crisp pine note at the heart of the aroma, along with a touch of alertness and clear breathing that lends the strain its light, clear-headed lift before the body relaxation takes over.

Linalool rounds out the profile with a soft, floral calm that quiets the nervous system, deepening the soothing, stress-easing character Afghan Kush is valued for.

Completing the profile, Beta-Pinene reinforces the woody pine note, Humulene adds an earthy, hoppy depth to the anti-inflammatory side, and Terpineol a gentle floral-pine softness.

Expect a classic, true Indica structure: short, compact, and very bushy. Afghan Kush is famous for being a small and robust plant with a dark green color and very broad, wide fan leaves. It develops a very thick main stem and incredibly sturdy side-branching. It does not stretch much, making it an ideal choice for growers with limited vertical space, small tents, or a Sea of Green (SOG) setup.

Yes, it is an absolutely fantastic choice for beginners. Pure Indicas from the Hindu Kush mountains are legendary for their resilience and ease of growth. Afghan Kush is incredibly robust, forgiving of common mistakes, naturally resistant to pests and cold temperatures, and its compact structure makes it very easy to manage. Afghan Kush is a classic “hash plant.” It was bred for generations in a region famous for producing the world’s best hashish. Its buds are absolutely caked in a thick, greasy layer of large-headed trichomes that are perfect for traditional hash-making methods like charas or dry-sifting, as well as for modern solventless extracts like rosin. It produces massive yields of incredibly pure, high-quality resin.
