Lineage Black Widow Strain
Black Widow is a potent sativa-dominant hybrid known for its high THC of 24% to 28%. Bred from Brazilian sativa and South Indian indica genetics, it is commonly described as around 65% sativa and 35% indica.
Despite its sativa structure, the effect leans calming: a bright, happy head to start that eases into a comfortable physical relaxation, in line with its soothing terpene profile. It is a great choice for anyone looking for an uplifting mood that settles into genuine calm.
Black Widow Origin
Black Widow’s European origin traces back to Amsterdam’s renowned seed banks of the 1990s, which played a pivotal role in developing its genetics, rooted in the esteemed White Widow family. Black Widow feminized seeds quickly became a favorite among cultivators thanks to their stability and their value for easing fatigue, muscle spasms and stress.
The meticulous breeding process in Amsterdam gave rise to the Black Widow strain, celebrated for its potency and medicinal value. Those seed banks, known for their dedication to quality and innovation, ensured Black Widow would stand out in a competitive market.
Its White Widow lineage connects it to legendary varieties like White Rhino and White Russian, further cementing its status as a top-tier choice for medicinal use.
Black Widow Strain Awards
Black Widow is a legendary, award-winning strain, best known for its 1st Place at the 1995 High Times Cannabis Cup. That victory solidified its reputation as one of the most powerful and resin-rich varieties of its era.
Recognized for its exceptional trichome production and potency, Black Widow quickly became a benchmark strain in Amsterdam’s competitive cannabis scene. Its Cannabis Cup win remains a defining milestone, reinforcing its status as a classic among connoisseurs and cultivators alike.
Black Widow Sativa or Indica?
Black Widow is predominantly Sativa (35% Indica / 65% Sativa), but it is far from a pure head-rush strain. The experience opens with a bright, clear-headed happiness and settles into a steady, soothing calm, a balance of gentle mental lift and real physical relaxation.
That combination, carried by a distinctly relaxing terpene profile, makes Black Widow a well-rounded choice: uplifting enough to brighten the mood, yet calming enough to unwind, with the compact, productive structure of its sativa genetics on the growing side.
Black Widow Effects
Black Widow delivers a calming, happy and relaxed effect. It starts with a bright lift in mood and a clear head, then eases into a deep, comfortable body relaxation that soothes tension without heavy sedation.
That balance makes it a versatile companion: the happy, uplifting side keeps the mind pleasant and sociable, while the calming body feel helps release stress and muscle tension, which also makes it a sensible choice for easing daytime fatigue.
With its soothing terpene profile and high THC, Black Widow offers a well-rounded experience that blends good mood with genuine relaxation, ideal for unwinding at almost any time of day.
Germinating Black Widow Seeds
It is important to germinate your Black Widow marijuana strain seeds carefully if you want to have a healthy harvest from day one. Although there are several methods to germinate our Feminized cannabis seeds, from Blimburn Seeds we recommend our customers to follow our easy and simple technique.
Before removing our Black Widow cannabis seeds from their packaging, remember that cannabis seeds are alive and delicate. The PH of our hands full of bacteria can easily infect them and ruin our germination.
Set Up Your Germination Station: Begin by moistening two paper towels with room temperature water. Lay one paper towel on a plate and spread the seeds on it, spacing them about 2 cm apart. Place the second paper towel on top of the seeds, and make sure to remove any excess water from the plate. Cover the setup with another opaque plate and store it in a warm, dark location.
Monitoring: Make sure paper towels are still moist by checking every 4-6 hours and spraying room temperature water. Typically, germination should occur within 24 to 120 hours. Once the seeds have sprouted tap roots, plant them with the roots facing down and cover with about 2 cm of soil. Remember to water the soil regularly by spraying to keep it moist. It may take up to two weeks for the plants to start growing.
Ideal Conditions: Maintain a consistent temperature of 69.8 ĀŗF ā 78.8 ĀŗF (21 ĀŗC ā 26 ĀŗC) in the germination area. Use purified room temperature bottled water with a pH level between 5.5 and 6.5. Keep the seeds away from light, allowing exposure for less than 1 minute before and during germination. Avoid touching the seeds or applying pressure to them.
Record Keeping: To qualify for the three month germination guarantee, it is necessary to follow all the steps outlined in our germination guidelines. Please do not use alternative germination methods, such as using a water bottle or planting directly into soil. Document the germination process through photography or video, as it will be requested when assessing claims for replacement products.
Black Widow Strain Flowering Time
Black Widow has an efficient flowering time of 8 to 10 weeks, relatively short for a sativa-dominant hybrid, which ensures a timely and rewarding harvest. Growers of all levels appreciate how manageable the cycle is, delivering a bountiful yield without compromising on quality.
Cultivating this legendary hybrid pairs that efficient flowering with a robust, flavorful harvest, making it a satisfying grow from seed to jar.
How to Grow Black Widow Weed?
Black Widow Feminized seeds can be grown indoors or outdoors under optimal conditions, to avoid any problems during their development. Although they are robust and moderately easy to grow, we should always prevent any pests. You can use different growing methods to retain and enhance the terpenes and flavors of your Black Widow buds.
- Use a quality substrate. Perlite, peat or coco coir are ideal for moisture retention.
- Thanks to the experience of our customers with our Black Widow seeds, we know that we can increase yields by up to 20%.
For optimal indoor cultivation, Blimburn Seeds advises wide, vertical spaces and the use of the ScrOG method to obtain a uniform canopy and increase the size of the lower flowers. If you plan to grow our feminized seeds outdoors, we have developed a grow guide for optimal cultivation in any area of the world. Remember that our plants also need good nutrients as seedlings, in their vegetative period and finally in their flowering period.
When growing outdoors, choose the best date for your crop and a place where the plants receive the most hours of sunshine. If you prefer to grow indoors, use good tents, textile pots, LED lighting, an air extractor to circulate clean air and, of course, a good carbon filter to avoid problems with neighbors or the law. Keep daytime temperatures between 68-80 ā and nighttime temperatures 7 to 9 ā cooler than the day.
Black Widow feminized plants need low humidity to thrive. Keep relative humidity (RH) at 55%-60% during the vegetative phase, reduce it to around 40% during flowering and to about 30% by harvest.
Outdoors, growers in the Northern Hemisphere should sow in April to harvest in mid-October. Healthy feminized Black Widow seeds produce about 21.16 oz/plant | 600 gr/plant of buds each.
Indoors, these crops have a flowering time of 8 – 10 weeks and produce about 1.15 – 1.47 oz/ft² | 350 – 450 gr/m².
Ideal Climate for Cultivating
Black Widow thrives best in a temperate climate, with warm summers and mild winters. The most conducive temperature range is 70-85 ā (21-29 ā), which ensures optimum growth and rich yields. Although its hardy genetics let it adapt to a variety of climates, it prefers regions with ample sunlight and moderate rainfall, plus well-draining soil to prevent waterlogging and root rot.
For growers in the United States, the most suitable states include California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Florida and Texas, whose warm, moderate climates mirror the strain’s ideal environment. With proper cultivation techniques, Black Widow seeds flourish in these regions and express the full genetic potential of this potent strain.
What does the Black Widow Smell Like?
The buds of Black Widow are rock hard, soaked in resin and carry a crystalline sheen from the sheer amount of trichomes. Its taste and aroma are a blend of fruity, pine and skunk notes, with a very distinctive sweet-and-sour undertone.
Black Widow makes a delicious, smooth smoke and delivers a happy, relaxing experience. Thanks to its large resin production, it is also an ideal strain for high quality extracts and concentrates.
Experiencing the Black Widow Strain

The plant has a mostly Sativa structure, with a sturdy stem that supports its branches, and can be grown both indoors and outdoors, with a higher yield when it gets plenty of hours of sunshine outdoors.
Our Black Widow seeds are a mostly Sativa strain with a flowering period of 8 – 10 weeks. Remember to provide the right nutrients at each stage of cultivation to obtain resinous buds packed with trichomes.
You can also find this seed in our Moonlight Calm Pack.
Black Widow Terpenes
Black Widow carries a fruity, piney and skunky aroma with a sweet-and-sour edge, built on a profile of five terpenes. Although the genetics lean sativa, these terpenes pull the effect toward the calm, relaxed side.
Myrcene forms the earthy, musky base of the aroma. The most common cannabis terpene and a well-known muscle relaxant, it drives the deep, comfortable body calm and supports the strain’s use for muscle spasms.
Caryophyllene adds a warm, peppery spice and is the only terpene known to bind the body’s CB2 receptors, widely linked to easing tension and supporting its use for stress.
Linalool contributes a soft floral note that quiets the nervous system, reinforcing the calm, happy and relaxed mood at the heart of this strain.
Alpha-Pinene brings the fresh pine note in the aroma, tied to clarity and alertness, keeping the head bright and happy so the relaxation never turns heavy, with a lift that helps counter fatigue.
Rounding things out, Humulene adds an earthy, hoppy warmth and extra soothing support, giving Black Widow a fruity, pine and skunk aroma paired with a calming, happy and relaxed effect.

Reviews
Black widow is fire and grew out perfectly. Blimburn never disappoints!
Really good nutrients, my plants look great. Just wish bottles were bigger.
Excellent nutrients, clean mixing, and balanced pH every time.
Got my seeds in under 48 hours, it only took about 36 hours to germinate and develop a 1/4 inch tap root. Great enzymatic activity, JUST FOLLOW THE PAPER TOWEL TECHNIQUE, I used twice distilled water with low 5.5 pH and couldnāt be happier with the result. This is my first grow with cannabis and Im definitely looking forward to seeing the end result with my DWC setup! Definitely going to have to grab a few more of these!!!!

How To Grow Black Widow
Read NowBlack Widow is the original, legendary strain that started it all. It was created in the 1990s by the famed breeder Shantibaba. This exact genetic cross (Brazilian Sativa x South Indian Indica) won the 1995 High Times Cannabis Cup under the name White Widow. When the original breeders parted ways, Shantibaba kept the parent plants and renamed his creation Black Widow to differentiate it from other versions. When you grow Black Widow, you are growing the authentic, original, award-winning genetics.
Expect a classic, lanky Sativa structure. This plant grows tall and open, with significant stretching during the flowering phase; it is not compact. It produces long, elegant branches with a fantastic bud-to-leaf ratio, making trimming easy. Its open structure provides excellent airflow, but you must plan for its considerable vertical height, especially in an indoor setup.
Managing its height is the key to a successful indoor harvest. We highly recommend topping the plant multiple times during its vegetative stage to create a much wider and bushier canopy. Its long and flexible branches make it an absolutely perfect candidate for a ScrOG (Screen of Green) setup. By weaving the branches through the net during the flowering stretch, you can control its height and create a massive, flat plane of incredibly resinous colas.
