Lineage Black Sugar Strain

Black Sugar is a mostly indica hybrid, 70% Indica / 30% Sativa, from crossing Black Domina with LA OG Kush and Critical. It carries fruity, lemon, orange and skunk flavors over a strong, mostly indica body high.

With a THC of 18% to 20%, it is a great choice for anyone after a strong, relaxing experience, and it has a strong tendency to develop very dark purple tones, almost black, that give the strain its name.

Black Domina Strain

Black Domina is a mostly indica hybrid, a cross of Afghan Kush, Northern Lights and Ortega. It has an earthy, sweet flavor with hints of spice, and calming effects with a strong body high that many turn to for pain, stress and relaxation.

LA OG Kush Strain

LA OG Kush is a popular mostly indica hybrid, a cross of OG Kush and LA Confidential. It has an earthy, spicy aroma with a hint of citrus, and calming, relaxing effects with a strong body high that help with stress and pain.

Critical Kush Strain

Critical is a powerful mostly indica hybrid, a cross of Critical + and OG Kush. It has a sweet, earthy flavor and very calming, relaxing effects, with a strong body high that many use for pain, stress and relaxation.

Origin

Black Sugar has a rich, diverse origin, combining genetics from Europe, the USA, Afghanistan and Asia. It was born in Europe as a blend of celebrated strains like Critical and Black Domina, crossed with a champion variety from Los Angeles, California.

The result is a unique mix of robust genetics, renowned for its potent effects and resilience, a favorite among growers and users alike. Its origin story shows the power of combining the best from different regions.

Black Sugar Strain Sativa or Indica?

Black Sugar is indica-dominant, roughly 70% Indica / 30% Sativa. That makeup gives a versatile, well-rounded experience: a heavy, relaxing body with just enough sativa to keep the head clear and the mood bright.

Its genetics have been carefully selected for that harmonious effect. While it keeps some sativa traits, its primary character is physical relaxation and mental calm, an excellent choice for anyone after an indica-dominant experience.

Black Sugar Weed Strain Effects

The effects of Black Sugar are outstanding. As an indica-dominant hybrid it offers the best of both sides: a euphoric, uplifting cerebral high from its sativa genetics, with the indica side delivering a soothing physical relaxation and a focused, happy calm. That combination makes it a popular choice for recreational and medicinal users alike, and many also turn to it for support with low mood, sleep and muscle spasms.

Black Sugar seeds carry the genetics behind those effects, so growers can produce a product that lives up to the strain’s reputation. Whether for stress, physical discomfort or simple relaxation, its effects are highly regarded. Effects vary from person to person.

Germinating Cannabis Seeds Black Sugar Seeds

Germinating your Black Sugar seeds properly is important for a successful harvest. At Blimburn Seeds, we suggest an easy and effective method for germinating our Feminized cannabis seeds.

Set Up Your Germination Station: Begin by moistening two paper towels with room temperature water. Lay one paper towel on a plate and spread the seeds on it, spacing them about 2 cm apart. Place the second paper towel on top of the seeds, and make sure to remove any excess water from the plate. Cover the setup with another opaque plate and store it in a warm, dark location.

Monitoring: Make sure paper towels are still moist by checking every 4-6 hours and spraying room temperature water. Typically, germination should occur within 24 to 120 hours. Once the seeds have sprouted tap roots, plant them with the roots facing down and cover with about 2 cm of soil. Remember to water the soil regularly by spraying to keep it moist. It may take up to two weeks for the plants to start growing.

Ideal Conditions: Maintain a consistent temperature of 69.8 ĀŗF – 78.8 ĀŗF (21 ĀŗC – 26 ĀŗC) in the germination area. Use purified room temperature bottled water with a pH level between 5.5 and 6.5. Keep the seeds away from light, allowing exposure for less than 1 minute before and during germination. Avoid touching the seeds or applying pressure to them.

Record Keeping: To qualify for the three month germination guarantee, it is necessary to follow all the steps outlined in our germination guidelines. Please do not use alternative germination methods, such as using a water bottle or planting directly into soil. Document the germination process through photography or video, as it will be requested when assessing claims for replacement products.

Black Sugar Strain Flowering Time

Black Sugar has an efficient flowering period of approximately 8 to 9 weeks, a short window that reflects its well-crafted genetics.

That flowering duration lets growers enjoy a timely, bountiful harvest. Indoors or outdoors, Black Sugar’s quick finish means you reap the rewards of your work without undue delays.

How to Grow Black Sugar Seeds?

Black Sugar seeds can be grown indoors or outdoors under optimal conditions. The plants are moderately easy to grow and hardy, though it is always worth guarding against pests. A few methods help retain and enhance the terpenes and flavors of your buds:

  • Use a quality substrate. Perlite, peat or coco coir are ideal for moisture retention.
  • In our customers’ experience with Black Sugar, good technique can increase yields by up to 20%.

For indoor cultivation, we advise wide, vertical spaces and the ScrOG method to obtain a uniform canopy and build up the lower flowers. If you plan to grow these feminized seeds outdoors, we also have an indoor grow guide for optimal cultivation anywhere in the world. Feed quality nutrients through the seedling, vegetative and flowering stages. Indoors, set up good tents, fabric pots, LED lighting, an air extractor and a carbon filter.

Keep daytime temperatures between 68 and 80 ℉, and night temperatures 7 to 9 ℉ cooler than the day. These plants prefer low humidity: 55 to 60% in the vegetative phase, around 40% in flowering, and down to 30% by harvest.

Outdoors in the northern hemisphere, sow in April for a harvest in mid-October, at about 19.4 to 22.93 oz per plant (550 to 650 g). Indoors, the cycle runs 8 to 9 weeks with yields of 1.97 oz/ft² (600 g/m²).

Ideal Climate for cultivation

Black Sugar is a hardy variety that prefers a Mediterranean or temperate climate, where warm summers transition gently into cool, mild autumns. The plants thrive best between 70 and 85 ℉ (21 to 29 ā„ƒ). Their robust nature handles slight fluctuations outside that range, but keeping to these temperatures keeps the plants happy and healthy.

In the United States, the most suitable states include California, Oregon, Colorado, Michigan, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Maine and Massachusetts. Growers there have the best shot at a successful crop once they meet the strain’s needs: regular watering in well-draining soil and consistent sunlight help Black Sugar develop into strong, bountiful plants and reward growers with an abundant harvest.

What does the Black Sugar strain Smell Like?

The buds of Black Sugar are rock-hard, soaked in resin and often carry a crystalline sheen from the sheer amount of trichomes. The aroma is a complex blend of roasted coffee and spiced hashish over an earthy, piney base with bright citrus notes.

On the palate it brings fruity lemon and orange with a skunky, pungent edge. Black Sugar makes for a smooth, soft smoke and a strong, relaxing experience. Thanks to its heavy resin production, it is also an ideal strain for high-quality extracts and concentrates that capture its coffee-and-citrus profile.

Experiencing the Strain

With a Medium THC of 18% to 20%, Black Sugar brings a happy, focused and relaxed state of mind and body. It leaves you cheerful and at ease, pairing a clear, upbeat head with a comfortable body.

It is perfect for the evening after a long day. A mostly indica plant with a sturdy main stem that supports its satellite branches, it grows well indoors or outdoors, with a similar production and a higher yield when it gets full outdoor sunshine.

Black Sugar seeds are a mostly indica strain with a flowering period of 8 to 9 weeks. Feeding the right nutrients at each stage helps develop resinous buds and trichomes.

Black Sugar Strain Terpenes

Black Sugar carries a broad sixteen-terpene profile that explains both its complex coffee-citrus aroma and the shape of its high: a happy, clear head over a heavy, relaxed body. Four terpenes lead the blend and account for most of what you taste and feel.

Myrcene is the heart of the profile, a ripe, earthy-musky note with a pungent, almost skunky edge that gives the smoke its weight and underpins the strain’s skunk flavor. It is widely associated with a deeply relaxing, sedative quality. In Black Sugar it drives the heavy body relaxation and sits behind the strain’s use for sleep and muscle spasms.

Limonene brings the bright side of the aroma, a zesty lemon-and-orange note that lands right at the front and defines the Lemon and Orange flavors. It is commonly linked to an uplifted, positive mood and a lift in mental energy. Here it balances the heavy indica base, feeding the happy, focused head and the strain’s reputation for easing low mood.

Caryophyllene adds a warm, peppery spice that reads as the hashish-like depth in the aroma. It is the one terpene that interacts with the body’s CB2 receptors and is widely tied to calming, tension-soothing properties. In this cultivar it reinforces the relief many seek for muscle spasms and everyday stress while grounding the spicier notes.

Linalool rounds things off with a soft, floral note carrying a faint sweetness. It is widely associated with a calming, stress-easing quality that settles an overactive mind. In Black Sugar it works alongside the Myrcene to deepen the relaxed, sleepy finish and support the strain’s use for low mood and restful nights.

Filling out the profile, Terpinolene and Citral add fresh, fruity-citrus brightness, Terpineol, Borneol and Camphene lend cooling, herbal depth, Alpha-Pinene and Beta-Pinene a touch of pine and clarity, and Alpha-Cedrene, Eugenol, Fenchol, Nerolidol and Phytol a subtle woody, spicy and balsamic backbone that completes the aroma.

How To Grow Black Sugar

Read Now

Yes, absolutely! This is the signature trait of its Black Domina parentage. Many phenotypes of Black Sugar, especially when exposed to slightly cooler nighttime temperatures late in the flowering stage, will develop stunning, deep purple and almost black coloration on the sugar leaves and throughout the buds. This creates a breathtaking contrast with its thick coating of frosty white trichomes.

Expect a vigorous, medium-to-tall plant with a classic, bushy Indica-dominant structure. It is not a short, compact plant. It grows with a very strong main stem and extremely sturdy, productive side-branching. It will stretch a moderate amount during flowering and has a tendency to grow wide, making it a perfect candidate for filling out a grow space.

Yes, it is an excellent choice for beginners. This strain was bred for maximum resilience and ease of growth, inheriting the robust nature of Critical and Black Domina. It is very forgiving of common mistakes, naturally resistant to pests, and reliably produces massive yields of high-quality cannabis with very little effort. It’s a fantastic strain to build a new grower’s confidence.

Its strong and bushy structure is perfect for simple and effective training. We highly recommend topping the plant once or twice during the vegetative stage. This will break its apical dominance and create a very wide, multi-headed bush with dozens of potential cola sites. Its sturdy branches also make it a great candidate for a ScrOG (Screen of Green) setup to maximize light exposure to its entire frame.
