Origin
Purple Kush feminized has its roots in the vibrant cannabis culture of California’s Bay Area. It is a blend of Hindu Kush and Purple Afghani, two potent and storied indica varieties. Known for its striking purple hues and deep relaxation, Purple Kush quickly gained popularity among enthusiasts, celebrated for robust genetics that give growers and users a consistently powerful result.
The Purple Kush strain is a key member of the “purple” family, which includes popular varieties like Purple Punch and Purple Lemon. Often grown from feminized seeds, it has won numerous cannabis competitions, cementing its status as a top-tier choice.
Its enduring appeal lies in that strong genetic foundation and the unique traits that make it a favorite among both growers and consumers.
Purple Kush Seeds Sativa or Indica?
Purple Kush is a mostly Indica strain, and its pure Hindu Kush and Purple Afghani heritage leads the experience. That indica dominance brings a deep, full-body relaxation with a gentle, happy euphoria, the classic profile of a heavy Kush variety.
Rooted in the Hindu Kush region, the strain carries a deep, musky aroma with sweet, earthy notes, and it is famous for the striking purple hues its buds develop. This mix of potent, calming effects and eye-catching looks is exactly what has made Purple Kush a favorite among cannabis enthusiasts worldwide.
Purple Kush Effects
Purple Kush is known for a profoundly calming, relaxed effect that eases both body and mind, which is exactly why it is so often reached for to manage stress, insomnia and pain. The onset settles into a tranquil, heavy-bodied comfort typical of a strong indica.
That deep relaxation comes with a happy, sociable lift: many users find themselves content and talkative, with a touch of creativity and introspection before the calm takes over. It makes Purple Kush an ideal strain for unwinding in the evening after a long day.
Germinating Purple Kush Seeds
It is important to germinate your Purple Kush Feminized cannabis seeds carefully if you want to have a healthy harvest from day one. Although there are several methods to germinate our Feminized cannabis seeds, at Blimburn Seeds, we recommend our customers to follow our easy and simple technique.
Before removing our Purple Kush seeds from their packaging, remember that cannabis seeds are alive and delicate. Hands can be full of bacteria that can easily infect seeds and ruin the germination process.
Set Up Your Germination Station: Begin by moistening two paper towels with room temperature water. Lay one paper towel on a plate and spread the seeds on it, spacing them about 2 cm apart. Place the second paper towel on top of the seeds, and make sure to remove any excess water from the plate. Cover the setup with another opaque plate and store it in a warm, dark location.
Monitoring: Make sure paper towels are still moist by checking every 4-6 hours and spraying room temperature water. Typically, germination should occur within 24 to 120 hours. Once the seeds have sprouted tap roots, plant them with the roots facing down and cover with about 2 cm of soil. Remember to water the soil regularly by spraying to keep it moist. It may take up to two weeks for the plants to start growing.
Ideal Conditions: Maintain a consistent temperature of 70-90ĀŗF in the germination area. Use purified room temperature bottled water with a pH level between 5.5 and 7. Keep the seeds away from light, allowing exposure for less than 1 minute before and during germination. Avoid touching the seeds or applying pressure to them.
Record Keeping: To qualify for the three month germination guarantee, it is necessary to follow all the steps outlined in our germination guidelines. Please do not use alternative germination methods, such as using a water bottle or planting directly into soil. Document the germination process through photography or video, as it will be requested when assessing claims for replacement products.
Purple Kush Seeds Flowering Time
Alongside its exceptional effects, Purple Kush has a relatively short flowering time, which makes it a favorite among growers. With careful cultivation, it rewards you with dense, resinous buds in just 8-10 weeks.
Its manageable height of 3.28 ft | 1 m and high yields make it a practical, rewarding choice for both indoor and outdoor grows, even in tighter spaces.
How To Grow Purple Kush Seeds?
Purple Kush seeds can be grown indoors or outdoors under optimal conditions, to avoid any problems during their development. Although they are compact, robust and moderately easy to grow, always be sure to prevent any pests.
You can use different growing methods to retain and enhance the terpenes and flavors of your Feminized Purple Kush buds.
- Use a quality substrate. Perlite, peat, or coco coir are ideal for moisture retention.
- Thanks to the experience of our customers with our Feminized Purple Kush seeds, we know that we can increase yields by up to 20%.
For optimal indoor cultivation, Blimburn Seeds advises wide, vertical spaces and the use of the ScrOG method to obtain a uniform plane and increase the size of the lower flowers. If you plan to grow our Feminized seeds outdoors, we have developed a grow guide for optimal cultivation in any area of the world.
Remember that our cannabis plants also need good nutrients when our Feminized seeds are seedlings, in their vegetative period, and in their flowering period. When growing cannabis seeds outdoors, choose the best date for your crop and a place where cannabis plants can receive the most hours of sunshine.
If you would like to grow your seeds indoors, be sure to have good tents, textile pots for growing, LED lighting, an air extractor to circulate clean air, and of course a good carbon filter to avoid problems with neighbors or the law. Keep daytime temperatures between 68-80 ā and nighttime temperatures 7 to 9 ā cooler than the day.
Purple Kush Feminized plants need low humidity to thrive. Keep relative humidity (RH) at 55%-60% during the vegetative phase, reduce it to around 40% during flowering and to about 30% by harvest.
Outdoors, growers in the northern hemisphere should sow their cannabis seeds in April for harvest in mid October. Healthy Feminized Purple Kush seeds produce about 4.23 – 4.94 oz/plant | 120 – 140 g/plant.
Indoors, these crops have a flowering time of 8 – 10 weeks and produce about 1.47 – 1.64 oz/ft² | 450 – 500 gr/m².
Perfect Climate for Cultivating
Purple Kush thrives best in a warm, dry climate with plenty of sunshine and low ambient humidity. The ideal temperature for cultivation is between 70-80 ā (20-27 ā), which promotes healthy growth and a higher yield, while cooler nights under controlled conditions bring out the vibrant purple hue that makes this strain so distinctive. It is relatively resistant to mildew and mold, which helps make it beginner-friendly, though growers should still use well-draining soil so the roots can breathe and avoid water logging.
In the United States, the dry, sunny climates of California, Washington State and Oregon suit Purple Kush well. Arizona, Texas and Florida can also work, though their hot, dry conditions call for a little more attention to watering, and Nevada and North Carolina are ideal when the grow is temperature-controlled. Purple Kush keeps its potent genetics best in these conditions, rewarding careful growers with a rich harvest. Even though the strain is robust, steady temperatures and a regulated water supply are key to a generous yield.

Purple Kush Terpenes
Purple Kush is a classic heavy indica with an unmistakable aroma: sweet caramel and grape over an earthy, spicy hashish base with a soft floral edge. It carries a remarkably broad profile of thirteen terpenes, led by four dominant players that shape both that scent and its relaxed, happy character.
Myrcene anchors the blend with a deep, earthy sweetness that carries the strain’s grape-and-caramel signature. As the terpene most tied to body relaxation and sleep, it drives the heavy, calming comfort behind Purple Kush’s indica high.
Caryophyllene adds the warm, peppery, hashish-like spice and is the only terpene known to bind the body’s CB2 receptors. Widely linked to easing tension and discomfort, it reinforces the strain’s use for pain and arthritis.
Humulene brings an earthy, woody, hoppy warmth that deepens the base. Often associated with a grounded, balancing feel, it complements the relaxed body effect and the strain’s dense, resinous character.
Eugenol contributes a clove-like, spicy-floral note that rounds out the hashish edge. Tied to soothing, mildly numbing properties, it adds to the comforting, calming side of the profile.
A fruity, floral supporting cast of Ocimene, Farnesene and Citral lifts the sweetness, while Borneol, Camphene, Fenchol, Cadinene, Alpha-Cedrene and Alpha-Pinene add cooling, woody and pine accents plus extra sedative weight. Together they give Purple Kush a sweet, earthy, grape-and-hashish aroma paired with a deeply relaxed, happy and talkative effect made for the evening.

How To Grow Purple Kush
Read NowExpect a classic, true Indica structure: short, compact, and very bushy. Purple Kush is famous for being a small and robust plant with a dark green, almost purple coloration and very broad, wide fan leaves. It develops a very thick main stem and incredibly sturdy side-branching. It does not stretch much, making it an ideal choice for growers with limited vertical space, small tents, or a Sea of Green (SOG) setup.
The deep purple color is a strong genetic trait in Purple Kush, but you can encourage its most vibrant expression. The key is introducing cooler nighttime temperatures (a drop of 10-15°F or 5-8°C compared to daytime) during the last 2-3 weeks of the flowering stage. This temperature drop signals the plant to produce anthocyanins, the natural pigments that create those iconic, deep purple hues.
Yes, it is an absolutely fantastic choice for beginners. Pure Indicas from this lineage are legendary for their resilience and ease of growth. Purple Kush is incredibly robust, forgiving of common mistakes, naturally resistant to pests and mold, and its compact structure makes it very easy to manage. It reliably produces top-shelf, beautiful, and potent cannabis with very little effort.
While not strictly necessary, it is highly beneficial. Because it grows so dense and bushy, light defoliation (removing some of the large fan leaves) throughout the flowering stage is crucial to improve light penetration and airflow to the lower buds. Topping the plant once during the vegetative stage can also help create a more even, multi-headed canopy and prevent all the energy from going to a single central cola.
