After July, 1st 2018 recreational use and home cultivating will be allowed

Canada will be the first G7 country to legalize marijuana on July, 1st 2018. This date is nothing but Canada Day, in which canadians will be able to celebrate it smoking weed freely. Thus, the prime minister Justin Trudeau accomplishes his electoral promise, which was born with the aim of solving “a wrong problem” and eliminating “the criminal part of the production and trade of marijuana”.

In this way this american country emulates Uruguay, the first country in the world to legalize marijuana, and also their neighbors, some states of the USA like Colorado or Washington, which also get benefits from its legalization. Thus, cannabis will be almost the same to tobacco.

This decree will allow recreational use, home cultivating from up to 4 plants and the possession of 30 grams of marijuana in adults. There are still some doubts about the age to start consuming it, which might be from 21 to 25, or the price at shops, because if it is too cheap the consumption among youngsters will shot up, but on the opposite, if it is too expensive, it would benefit the black market.

Af first sight these issues will be in province’s hands, free to legislate. On the other hand, there is still also to be decided about the situation of people penalized for having cannabis before the publication of this decree.
